RPCVs of Wisconsin-Madison Group-Building Grant to the National Peace Corps Association

Each year we offer the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) a grant for group-building activities for other RPCV groups. In 2009, NPCA received $10,000 for RPCV group-building activities, which was used primarily for webinars. Their report on how it was used is below. For the year 2010-2011 (50th anniversary of Peace Corps), they have requested the grant to facilitate regional group meetings.

National Peace Corps Association
2009-10 Group Capacity Building Grant
Final Report to RPCVs of Wisconsin-Madison

Capitalizing on momentum building towards the Peace Corps’ 50th anniversary and the availability of new technologies, the RPCVs of Wisconsin-Madison grant to NPCA funded a series of capacity-building webinars designed to expand the membership and engagement of NPCA member groups and the development of a series of templates and guidelines to assist all member groups in planning effective activities for the Peace Corps’ 50th anniversary year. The resources covered under this grant are summarized as follows:

Webinars

An initial group of webinars was designed based on an online survey of member group leaders, of which there were 37 total responses. Topics of those webinars were determined based on the results of the survey as well as scheduling, i.e. weeknights at 8pm EST/EDT. Following certain webinars (see below), it was determined that one or more follow-up webinars should be scheduled that would further elaborate on those webinars’ agendas.

The series of webinars was scheduled and promoted via NPCA’s social network, utilizing the Group Leaders Forum group and the events calendar. Each webinar was facilitated using ReadyTalk web and audio conferencing (www.readytalk.com). A power point presentation was used as the primary outline for each webinar and made available to participants prior to the scheduled time. After each webinar, the power point presentation was posted on NPCA’s website (www.peacecorpsconnect.org/member-groups/webinars) along with a summary of the discussion and/or question and answer that occurred and a link to a recording of the webinar. All recordings, summaries and presentations will remain on the NPCA website through the 50th anniversary year.

50th Anniversary how-to guides

The subjects and content of the 50th Anniversary how-to guides were determined based on the break-out discussions held during the 2009 Group Leaders Forum. Each event-specific guide consists of a basic outline that includes a brief description of the event, the audience, and goals, followed by a suggested timeline with guidelines on how to plan, implement, and follow up from the event. The ‘Program Planning’ guide serves as a general resource for structuring any 50th Anniversary event. All the guides were posted to the NPCA website in September 2009 and were highlighted in the resources discussed during all 50th Anniversary related webinars.

Concerts These guides were created based on discussions during the 2009 Group Leaders Forum and are posted on NPCA’s 50th Anniversary Planning for Member Groups page. The guides are open to further suggestions/additions as groups continue to progress in their planning.
